I got a call from a building company needing help with some electrical work on a high-up spot. They were looking at expensive scaffolding that would take days just for access to two lights that needed to be replaced. I explained that while I'm not an electrician, I specialize in access. I told them, 'If you can get me a qualified electrician who's comfortable at height, I can get them safely into position to do the job.'
Luckily, they found an electrician who wasn't afraid of heights. We quickly mobilized. One of our Rope Access Technicians set up the rigging on the roof, ensuring a controlled descent for the electrician. I rappelled down right next to him, assisting with his positioning and rescue just in case something went south.
The difference compared to scaffolding was night and day. From the time I arrived and started setting up, to the work being completed and us packing up, the entire job took only three hours. They got their electrical work done safely and efficiently, saving significant time and money compared to traditional access methods.
